Pleasure Dome XII: FUEGO (1969, EN Dub, 35mm) & FEMALE TROUBLE (1974, OV, 35mm)
Before the winter break, Zelluloid42's PLEASURE DOME is heating things up again: we present a double feature in which boundless female lust literally leaps off the screen.
We start with a campfest that is still far too unknown in Germany! ‘She burns. She consumes. She's a woman on fire. She's Fuego.’ In Fuego (1969), Argentine exploitation auteur Armando Bó casts his own wife Isabel Sarli as a voluptuous nymphomaniac, a volcano about to erupt, whose flames devour all men. Aesthetically, the whole thing is somewhere between the colourful melodramas of Douglas Sirk and the tit-filled cinema of Russ Meyer.
American camp king John Waters has always been and always will be a fan of this cinema of excessive desires. Yes, it's an open secret that Waters' great muse Divine was modelled on the man-eating diva Sarli from Bós' films. In Female Trouble (1974), sex and violence are the fuel of the story: when teenager Dawn Davenport doesn't get the cha-cha heels she wants for Christmas, she runs away from Baltimore into a life of crime, sex and violence. Naturally, there's plenty of colour too!
Once again, we have spared no effort and worked overtime to present you with historical 35mm prints, Waters' film in its original language, and the film of his role model in a sleazy english dubbed version.
